Dr. Rinzing Ongmu Sherpa is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at CDOE, Sikkim Manipal University. She received her PhD degree in Sociology from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi in 2023. She was awarded the UGC-NET & JRF scholarship, in Sociology. Her areas of interest include ethnicity and identity politics, community studies, gender studies, Himalayan studies, and ethnography. Over the years, she has been a part of several national and international academic conferences, seminars, talks, and workshops. In 2019, her M.Phil. research paper was funded by the Ireland India Institute, Dublin City University for their Annual International Conference on South Asia. Additionally, she has presented her works at the University of Toronto, Social Science Baha, Kathmandu, Jawaharlal Nehru University, and Ambedkar University Delhi, among others. Further, she has published in academic journals and edited volumes while also contributing regularly to online articles and op-eds for local newspapers. Dr. Rinzing has seven years of research experience and specializes in ethnographic research. Her teaching philosophy is anchored in the creation of an inclusive and safe learning space for her students. She is dedicated to fostering interdisciplinary learning experiences, aiming for a nuanced understanding of complex social phenomena beyond traditional classroom boundaries.
